Luang Prabang – The old town was a perfect place to walk around, relax and enjoy the stunning river views.
Luang Prabang is definitely still worth a visit. In fact, for us, it was one of our highlights of Laos. Even though it’s touristy, it never felt too busy. The old town was a perfect place to walk around, relax and enjoy the stunning river views.
You will need around 1 – 2 weeks to spend time getting to know Laos better as a foreign traveller. This gives you plenty of time to explore a few cities and cultural sites at your leisure. Plus, you’ll have much more of a chance to get from the top to the bottom of the country.
Luang Prabang vs. Vientiane. Choosing between Luang Prabang and Vientiane as we’ve experienced it ultimately boils down to this: if you prefer to experience a quieter and slower pace of life, as well as to be surrounded by nature and wildlife, you are sure to enjoy everything Luang Prabang has to offer.
Luang Prabang is well known for its numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries. Every morning, hundreds of monks from the various monasteries walk through the streets collecting alms. In 1995, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) elected to inscribe the Town of Luang Prabang on the World Heritage List.
The best time to visit Luang Prabang is from November to March when the weather is comfortably dry with pleasant average temperatures. It can also get somewhat crowded, especially in January and during festivals, so be sure to book ahead if you’re traveling during this time of the year.
