Siem Reap – The phenomenal ruins of Angkor Wat may be reason enough to visit Cambodia, but there’s much more to this friendly, energetic country.
Personally, I think Phnom Penh is worth a few days, it’s a great place, but if your schedule doesn’t allow that and if you got there early, in one day you could visit the Palace, museum, both markets and even have time to eat!
Phnom Penh, along with Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, are significant global and domestic tourist destinations for Cambodia. Founded in 1372, the city is noted for its historical architecture and attractions. It became the national capital in 1434 following the fall of Angkor, and remained so until 1497.
The capital city still maintains considerable charm with plenty to see. It exudes a sort of provincial charm and tranquillity with French colonial mansions and tree-lined boulevards amidst monumental Angkorian architecture. Phnom Penh is a veritable oasis compared to the modernity of other Asian capitals. The Cambodian capital is reinventing itself after a turbulent century — emerging as a dynamic modern city with a creative culinary scene and stellar architecture.
The best time to visit Cambodia is between November and April, when there is very little rain. During this time you’ll see clear blue skies, making it a great time to enjoy a relaxing getaway on the southern coast. Temperatures stay at a warm 68°F year-round.
