LAOS  –  luxury journey — River, Mountains & People

Mountainous and landlocked Laos stretches from its southern border with Cambodia up to forest-covered mountains in the north, with the meandering Mekong River flowing the length of the country. Visitors will find Buddhist monasteries, ornate temples and remnants of colonial French influence in the country’s architecture and cuisine.

This beautiful Buddhist land is one of the continent’s best-kept secrets, although it is increasingly on the radar of savvy luxury and adventure travelers alike. Together with Vietnam and Cambodia, Laos made up the triumvirate colonies of French Indochina, and significant pockets of Old World charm remain.

Laos’s understated crown jewel is the ancient capital of Luang Prabang, whose fusion of Lao and European architecture UNESCO called a “key stage in the blending of these two distinct cultural traditions.” Vientiane is the region’s most relaxed capital, while the Bolaven Plateau beckons with dramatic waterfalls and superb coffee plantations. For travelers willing to forgo five-star hotels to focus on remote rural encounters, the northern hill-tribe peoples in Luang Namtha and Muang Sing (Black Tai, Hmong, Lanten, Akha and many more) and the unspoiled “4,000 Islands” stretch of the lower Mekong, home to the rare Irrawaddy dolphins, are itinerary highlights. Champasak province, meanwhile, offers the impressive Khmer ruins of Wat Phu, architectural forebear of Angkor.

Scenery

Feast your eyes on the unspoiled nature in Laos. Throughout Laos you have a range of scenery in which to explore. Dense Jungles, Caves, great mountains, rivers, limestone cliffs and rice fields. This is one of the hidden charms of this magnificent country, still relatively untouched and undiscovered.

Culture

Laos has a fascinating Buddhist culture, with many temples and ceremonies common to Laos. You can see the famous Buddha Park with over 200 religious statues and sculptures including a 40m high Buddha, The Great Stupa which is the most sacred monument in the whole of Laos. There are also ceremonies common to Laos called the Baci which is a mix of Animism and Buddhism, and their purpose is to “call back” your own spirits to your body because they sometimes escape.

Local Hill Tribes

We can navigate you through the dense jungle, where you can immerse yourself in to the locals way of life to experience the Akha tribes in their richest and most natural form. The best places to experience these hill tribe villages are around Muang La, Muang Khua and Nong Khaiw.

Adventure & Sports

Due to the variety of landscapes and scenery within Laos there are a variety of activities you can do. With the vast rock formations around Vang Vieng you can do rock climbing and in Luang Prabang the best way to get around is by walking or exploring by bicycle. Deep into the jungle you have the Gibbon Experience where you can spend nights in tree-houses and zip line between the houses exploring more of the jungle.
