The currents of the South China Sea swirl through the Malacca straight and up into the Bay of Bengal.

In 2020, the world’s greatest driving adventure breaks new ground on an epic journey along the length of the Malay peninsula to the bustling metropolis of Singapore for Formula One’s original night race.

Starting in Langkawi, a tropical archipelago of 99 jungle covered islands with beaches of soft white sand, we welcome our guests from around the world to this exotic jewel of the East for an eye-opening party. As the Sun rises the next morning our journey begins.

Taking in turquoise ocean, UNESCO heritage architecture, tea plantations, hot springs, and even one of Asia’s most exclusive card rooms, this is a truly spectacular Eastern adventure.

The Highlight ….

Off you go ….

The Datai

Monkeys amble past paying little attention to human visitors, and rare flying squirrels soar between trees overhead.

Welcome to The Datai, an era defining pioneer where the luxurious villas on wooden stilts blend into the jungle.

Through the foliage lies a wide crescent of sand and sunset views across the deserted bay.

The Datai is in a designated UNESCO geopark and surrounded by coral reef that teems with sea-life.

It’s a regular in best hotels of the world lists, so where better to relax after your journey and prepare for the start of an epic driving adventure?

Datai Bay

After a leisurely morning to soak up the stunning surrounds, The Run To Singapore gathers our travellers, seekers, and adventurers from across the world for a long lunch beneath the palm trees on the tropical sands of the Datai Bay.

The Tall Ship

With waves lapping the shore and as coffee comes out, a stunning white tall ship will glide into the bay and sit at anchor ready for you to board. As afternoon stretches into evening, we set off through the 99 islands of the Langkawi archipelago to the perfect spot for a sundown cocktail surrounded by limestone karsts and waterfalls.

That night sees a welcome feast and a spicy Oriental party underneath the stars with the sounds of good times, the only noise echoing off the deserted coves. Some may be asleep already by the time we set sail and cross the Malacca straits for the mainland!

As morning breaks near the Thailand border, breakfast is on board our tall ship, followed by the start-line of The Run To Singapore in Perlis state, the smallest in Malaysia.

Heading inland on empty roads past palm plantations and stray dogs basking in the sun our first leg takes us towards the man- made lakes in Belum rainforest, sunk to keep out the Viet Cong during the Vietnam war.

Pushing further south, we turn into a tucked away valley, where geothermal springs bubble up and the focus is on serenity and balance.

The Banjaran hot springs retreat is the perfect location to soothe away the aches of the road in the natural pools surrounded by jungle and near vertical limestone cliffs.

Alternatively, the meditation cave is a prime spot to consider your cornering technique.

Dinner will be a breathtaking affair by candlelight inside one of the impressive limestone caverns.

Genting Cameron Highland

We’re off into the hills today, and what feels a world away from the gorgeous beaches of the north.

We’re in the Cameron Highlands an elevated plateau around 5,000 feet above sea level.

It’s a cooler ambiance up here and one of the best tea growing regions in the world with plantations tumbling down the gentle slopes in a series of beautiful shapes.

We take a break from the switchback curves for lunch and a thoroughly good cup of tea.

In the afternoon we press on through the wild interior of Malaysia heading towards the Genting Highlands, a Las Vegas style resort built high up in the hills.

Enjoy stunning views of the peaks shrouded in cloud from your hotel room, before cocktails and cards in one of South East Asia’s most exclusive gaming rooms.

Our final days driving sees us skirt round

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital, and to the Sepang Race track for lunch. Formula 1 was hosted here for 18 years, and we’ll have the opportunity to try out the Hermann Tilke designed track in the afternoon.

Sepang airport to Singapore is the last leg, as we go airborne to bypass the heavy traffic around the island city state before arriving at the ultimate stop – Raffles Hotel, Singapore.

From the moment your wheels crunch on the gravel driveway, this reverie of Singapore’s Colonial past delights.

Standing since 1887, named after Stamford Raffles the founder of Singapore, and recently emerged from a two year facelift, this is without doubt the classiest and most evocative den to spend a weekend of sport and good times.

Marina Bay

Marina Bay provides the stunning backdrop to Formula 1’s original night race. The track is lit up as bright as day with futuristic skyscrapers looming out of the darkness and blinking coloured neon.

Oriental junks bustle around the harbour, and the sleek F1 cars glisten menacingly under the glare.

Racing at night in such a unique atmosphere makes Singapore the most popular ‘away’ race. The Run To takes you into the heart of the action with a private area in the Paddock Club, on the start line.

Over the weekend you’ll get the chance to cruise the pitlane, check out the team garages and meet several of the personalities within the sport.

With flair barmen twirling away on their cocktails and food from the likes of Nobu and Heston Blumenthal, racing at night comes with its own flavour, undoubtedly getting you in the mood for the parties afterwards.
